In My Ears This Week - Sabbath Deluxe

Hello,
Have you guys heard the new Black Sabbath Deluxe remasters from Universal?  My com padre in the Company Band, Dave Bone is probably the best source of what's happening these days as far as ear candy.  He's constantly turning my ears on to great stuff, new and old.  This is his latest offering to me and now to you.

Earlier this year, Universal music released an amazing 3 Disc version of the Sabbath album "Paranoid."  Even though it's chock full of unreleased rarities and a 3rd disc/DVD of the Quadraphonic mix in 5.1 surround, that is not the magic of the collection.  The real magic lies in this quote from Geezer Butler:

"Two days for tracking, 10 to 10, and two days for mixing, 10 to 6," remembers engineer Tom Allom. The musicians weren't around for mixing or mastering. No one was more surprised than the band at its success: "We didn't think it'd ever do anything," remembers Geezer Butler. "Recording the album was just something we did on the way to Denmark."

Yes 4 days to record and mix that album.  An album that set the standard for every metal record after it. 4 days.

This is what check out what Tony Iommi said about "Black Sabbath":

"We thought 'We have two days to do it and one of the days is mixing.' So we played live. Ozzy was singing at the same time, we just put him in a separate booth and off we went. We never had a second run of most of the stuff."

2 days to record and mix.

I know to most people, this doesn't seem like a big deal.  It even treads on nerdy ground.  Most bands these days take at least a year and sometimes more to make a record (this includes Fireball Ministry).  I gotta say, it's embarrassing.

You gotta get your hands on these remasters.  For old fans, it's like lifting off a layer of muck and hearing them for the first time.  For new fans, I think it is the most accurate representation of what these albums are supposed to sound like ever.

Our new album is done.  I SWEAR that there will be news about it soon!

Until then, go re-buy some Sabbath!
